Some posts covered how you can present yourself as a teacher and create a great classroom environment and atmosphere to support you
There is lots more you can visualise so I’ve only included a few of the options above to get you started
As a MFL teacher, I always spoke the main language I was teaching around the school so outside of class
During my career, I met many teachers who had simply stopped learning in the belief that they had enough experience
Move your body as much as you can as it is so easy to get stuck in a position where we hold ourselves whilst teaching
Once you’ve answered those questions, hopefully you have an idea of your patterns when you do take care of yourself
Don’t get caught out. Stand strong and pay attention to those words. When talking about yourself, use your self-awareness
This is a quick technique which no-one can tell you are doing from the outside as it takes seconds really and as you get used to it,
Each student will teach us something new and we simply have to remain open to it and to them as well as ourselves.
Choose to notice the positives more than you would the negatives or the areas to improve on in terms of yourself and your students.
Will the classroom feel a welcoming environment to walk in and spend time in? Are there quiet spaces to encourage students
Are there any positive actions you can take which can help you more? Can you implement actions and behaviours into your day inside
If you have a difficult lesson, learning from it but then let it go and carry on so don’t carry it into the next lesson or your evening etc.
Self-awareness will help you in so many situations through knowing your qualities, areas of improvement and also knowing what feels right
You may wish to see what you naturally do during this month to bring yourself comfort
There will be many times during your NQT year and every year of your teaching career that follows when you don’t feel confident in yourself
Through modelling gratitude to students, you can teach them to use it more and you can integrate it into your classroom
Resilience isn’t about hiding your emotions or feelings or believing that it is a weakness to not be resilient.
This is also a technique to teach students and help them become more aware of what they are thinking and feeling.
This is also relevant in other areas of teaching and life in general. Just because you are a teacher doesn’t mean you need to know it all.
