‘When the student is ready, the teacher will appear’ is said to be a Zen proverb, a quote attributed to Buddha and Tao Te Ching amongst many others. I’ve seen it and heard it on many occasions being referred to when people are telling their stories of coincidence or fate whichever one they believe in.
When we realise which way we want to go in life then often that path becomes clear to us. We find people who can lead us along the path whether they be mentors, friends or people who challenge us. Often, we find things falling into place as we learn more from others, open up to changing and move in a different direction.
The teachers who appear to help us can come and go once we have learnt enough from them and often the best thank you to those who help us is to pass on that learning and the student then becomes the teacher.
If you’re lucky then you’ll recognise and acknowledge the teachers you’ve had and have in your life. If we open our minds and our hearts then we realise that everyone is our teacher as we can learn from everyone just as they can learn from us. This means the positives of how we want to be and also the negative aspects we want to avoid.
‘When the student is ready, the teacher will appear’ and I hope when you’re ready you can be a student and a teacher as there is joy in both.
Please let us know when you have been a student and a teacher:
